The
Pluralist: An Editorial Statement
John R. Shook, Center
for Inquiry Transnational, Buffalo
From time to time The Pluralist
publishes a special issue devoted to a single topic or thinker, and in
this case we have coupled that with our annual number devoted to applied
ethics. On April 7–8, 2006, scholars gathered in Oklahoma City for a conference,
"Josiah Royce, Ethics and Community," sponsored by the Ethics Center
of Oklahoma State University, the OSU Phi Sigma Tau Honor Society, the
Josiah Royce Society, the Donald G. Wester Annual Philosophy Conference,
Oklahoma Baptist University, and Oklahoma City University. The present
issue is a selection of the proceedings from that conference along with
some additions on the same theme. We thank the organizers of the conference,
especially Scott Gelfand of Oklahoma State University, Mark Y. A. Davies
of Oklahoma City University, Jason M. Bell of Vanderbilt University, Jacob
Lynn Goodson of the University of Virginia, and Donald G. Wester, Professor
Emeritus of Oklahoma Baptist University. The editors wish also to extend
their gratitude to the authors for contributing to this special issue.
