In Favor of Spiritual Assignation Robin Podolsky Why do we want out of the circle of egotism? Is it to be free from its extreme discomforts: the terror of annihilation, the ego's corrosive outrage at its own destruction, and the bleakness of its refusal to assign any value to life outside its own continuation? If so, Ralph Ellis's proposed spiritual partnership offers a way out, but so do other, radically different praxes—a classic Stoicism, for instance, that finds peace in freedom from attachments.
